| I've been asked to conduct a weekend survival course for the Texas State Guard, course will be in May. The Col, stated that he wanted his people to build shelters and everything....LOL here's some info about the guard: The Texas State Guard is one of four branches of the Texas Military Forces (TXMF), operating under the command of the Adjutant General of Texas and the Governor as Commander-in-Chief of all state military forces. The TXMF includes the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard and th4 Adjutant General’s Department.
The mission of the Texas State Guard (TXSG) is to provide mission-ready military forces to assist state and local authorities in times of state emergencies; to conduct homeland security and community service activities under the umbrella of Defense Support to Civil Authorities; and to augment the Texas Army National Guard and Texas Air National Guard as required.
Headquartered at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas, the TXSG functions as an organized state militia under the authority of Title 32 of the U.S. Code and Chapter 431 of the Texas Government Code.

| Congrats Brother. You should get a list of the gear they are issued so you can figure out what and how you would build a shelter with what they have on them. _________________ I have heard that those who celebrate life walk safely amongst the wild animals. | Well that should make for an interesting class. A suggestion for the first part of the class would be on how to build a successful survival kit that would work with the gear they are required to carry in the field. Then have them improvise shelters with their gear so they have to think outside the box. _________________ I have heard that those who celebrate life walk safely amongst the wild animals. | What gear would they typically have on them in a survival situation or are you trying to develop that?

I'm sure you will do a great job. Take some pics or video if at all possible. -BigJesse- _________________ A hero need not speak, for when he is gone the world will speak for him.

| Hi there.
I'm a member of the TXSG and can provide you with what my regiment (8th) has distributed for our "Go-Bags".
But I can't seem to figure our how to attach PDF files to a post.
If you'd like I can email it to you. |

| Just be patient when asking for info though. All recruiter requests go through headquarters in Austin and they sometimes put recruiting issues on the backburner while they take care of other things. So while it may seem like an informational black hole at times, you WILL get a response within a couple of weeks.
If you do decide to sign up, be prepared to wait up to 6 months before being inducted. The reason for this is that HQ gets only a small budget allotment (about 1.7 million, which is literally equal to the school lunch budget of the TXARNG), so they can only process so many background checks per month before they run out of funds. |
