Ok guys here it is I made this hammock and the whoopie sling set for this. The hammock is made of rip stop nylon in woodland camo and ACU patterns. The ends are not sewn so I have the ability to put an insulator in if it gets cold outside. The whoopie slings are made of 7/64" amsteel in black. I still need to get some nylon webbing to make the tree huggers (the ones used to hang it in the photos are actually my dogs leashes).

Nice set up. Actually, I'm not that fond of hammocks. I think because of my size. I'm 6'3 and 285 lbs. I feel like its gonna break at any moment. I know they make some heavy duty ones but I just don't think they are for me. I'm more of an impromptu tarp shelter. Normally an "A" frame. I'm gonna try to go out this week and set one up in a video or at least take some pics of how I do it. Its my own way. I like it. Anyway, did you sew the pieces yourself?

Yep sewed them together myself using my wife's sewing machine. And I made the whoopie slings myself too. For a bit there I was worried the lines wouldn't hold me (they are just so small) but they are rated for 1600 lbs. I'm not worried so much about the hammock material so much since I saw CableGuy Ken in his hammock made of a single layer of ripstop nylon. If I'm not mistaken he is about your size. I'm 6' and 200 lbs. and I'm using 2 layers of material on mine, partly for that reason.
I also made 2 soft shackles that I forgot to photograph. I'll have to do that later to show you those. I find them and the concept behind them absolutely fascinating. You'll see what I mean.

Nice work Bear
Here's my DIY hammock. Black ripstop whoopie slings and DIY bugnet. I have a couple of ENOs, a Hennesy Asym Zipper entry, and a warbonnet backbird (my favorite)

Nice! Where did you get the material for the bugnet? That is on my list of things to make for my set. I have enough extra material for me to make a bag to carry the whole hammock set. I wish I had more then the one hammock. Just not enough money to do that. LOL. Main reason I want more then one is so I can see how the others are made and improve my own design. As soon as I get back from basic I'm going to get some more Amsteel line and make up more whoopie slings in different sizes. I will also be making some more hammocks. Might make one for Jesse to see if we can get him into hammock camping. LOL.

Got the material at a place called "Fabric by the yard". I think it was the stuff they put in sun rooms to block the sun. It was also 112" wide so only had to work with one piece no seem.

Nice on the size. I'll have to see if the few fabric stores we have open still around me have anything like that.

Here are the photos of the soft shackles I said I would post. For anyone that hasn't see one before it is used like a carabiner, but they are lighter and flexible so you can store them in more places. If I'm not mistaken they can hold more weight then the biners I have seen also. These soft shackles can hold about 1000 lbs, I've been told. I made the large set so I could hang the hammock on my back porch. Had to make a second smaller set of Whoopie slings to do that as well.

Ok guys when I get back from Basic I'm going to get more cloth and Amsteel to make a few more set ups. One will be for my fiance and the rest for trade with anyone on this forum. I will also be working on making several other things for trade.

Here is a video to go with the above photos showing exactly how to make a Whoopie Sling. I'm going to try to make a few sets of Whoopie Slings to bring with me to the Gathering for trade or sale. If you are interested in getting one let me know so i can try to make sure I have enough.

I will be doing another video soon on how to make a continuous loop, soft shackle and an adjustable ridgeline.

1400lb., not 14000. And the name of the knot you couldn't remember is a lark's head.
I used a 2' piece of 24 guage stainless steel wire folded in half for a fid (the tool you use to pull the line through). That wire makes mighty fine snare wire too. I also cut off about 4 or 5 strands about 1" back from the bitter end to make it easier to pull through the bury.
I also locked the ends that formed the loop in the adjustable end of the sling by sewing through the line with some kevlar thread I got off amazon.
FYI, Amsteel Blue is available at 21 cents a foot at reddenmarine.com. The stuff is also sold under the trade names Spectra and Dyneema. Generically it is ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, for those who care.

I mention a fid in the video and I posted about the correction on the weight in the comments of the YouTube video but for some reason it didn't save. The talk about sewing the bury did save for some reason. Thank you for posting the link for Redden I couldn't remember what the name of the company I got mine from was.

Here is the video on the Continuous Loop as promised. I will post the next video, which is on the Soft Shackle later just waiting for it to render and then I will post it.
